Senior Research Associate in department Planning and Control of Production and Logistics Systems (PSPS), Faculty Production Engineering at the University of Bremen.
Curriculum Vitae
Mr. Rippel studied computer sciences at the University of Bremen. He focused on the areas of artificial intelligence, cognitive systems, and soft computing. During his diploma thesis at the Collaborative Research Center: Cognitive Systems (TR/8), he dealt with an analysis of uncertainty measures for the Dempster-Shafer evidence theory.
Mr. Rippel is a research scientist at the BIBA - Bremer Institut für Produktion und Logistik GmbH since January 2009.
Research Areas and Interests
- Modelling and simulation of logistic systems
- Model-based process configuration
- AI-Methods, e.g., in combination with simulation models
- Model transformation
- Mathematical optimization
Activities
While at BIBA, Mr. Rippel participated in several research projects that focused on developing methods for designing and configuring processes in different areas.
Subproject B2, „Adaptive Business Processes, “which was part of the Collaborative Research Center 637, funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), developed a method for modeling and simulating autonomous logistic processes. The Project CONVERGE, funded by the 7. Program of the European Commission developed methods to support the interoperability of non-hierarchical supply networks, focusing on the product design process.
The subproject C4, "Simultaneous Engineering," which is part of the Collaborative Research Center 747 “Micro Cold Forming,” funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), aimed to develop methods for the design and configuration of manufacturing process chains in micro-manufacturing. Mr. Rippel combined classical approaches for process modeling with machine learning techniques to provide a consistent method for both tasks.
The research project "Manufaktur 4.0" focused on developing mathematical and simulation-based models for optimizing production plans, taking into account fluctuating quality properties of raw materials in the production of delicatessen salads.
The XceedFeed project dealt with developing an online platform for feed manufacturers, retailers, and customers to digitalize and optimize ordering processes. In this context, Mr Rippel worked on developing (simulation-based) optimization strategies for the individual players to increase the overall efficiency of the supply network.
In the "Adapt2Mount" project, Mr. Rippel is primarily concerned with the online and offline optimization of manual assembly workstations, considering ergonomic aspects.
Currently, Mr. Rippel is working on the project "OffshorePlan," funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). In this project, he evaluates and develops approaches to combine mathematical optimization with classic discrete-event simulations. The project aims to combine the benefits of both approaches and make them available for the planning of offshore installation activities.
In addition, Mr. Rippel is involved in several lectures and is responsible for several modeling-themed sessions.
