Since container handling will increase in the future, the capacity of straddle carriers will increase as well. This leads to shorter time frames for maintenance of the straddle carriers. Thus the service life between maintenance operations has to increase. Within the project a system was developed, with which specific and crucial components of the straddle carrier could be monitored (equipment and condition monitoring). Main focus was placed on the shift from preventive maintenance to an actual condition based maintenance.
