CrushPack Development of a process to improve the crushability of packaging solutions made of expanded polystyrene (EPS) Online sales of fresh and frozen food (E-Food) requires a specialized packaging solution. Thereby, specific technical, economic and environmental requirements as well as the user experience have to be considered. Usually, this packaging is made of expanded polystyrene (EPS) and Styrofoam. The storage and disposal of these, comparably bulky EPS packaging is very difficult for private households and reduces the acceptance of E-Food. Therefore, the objective of this project is to the adaptation of the EPS packaging in order to increase its crushability and render it easier to store and dispose, while retaining its thermodynamic properties. The task of the BIBA focusses on the theoretical and simulative development of a product and process model for the integrated simulation and optimization of the manufacturing process.
